Sencha Teaware, Porcelain created in the traditional Kyoto way

New video Release "KYOTO WARE / KIYOMIZU WARE Sencha Teaware of T.NISHIKAWA&Co.,Inc."

Kyoto Ware / Kiyomizu Ware is closely related to the culture of sencha tea.
The current tea manufacturing process was established in the early 18th century, during the Edo period (1603-1868). At this time, Basaio, the founder of the sencha tea ceremony, established a teahouse called "Tsusentei" in the Higashiyama area of Kyoto, which led to the widespread popularity of sencha tea.
Porcelain firing techniques also spread throughout Kyoto during this time and many potters began to produce sencha ware. Since then, a variety of styles and shapes of teaware have continued to be produced in Kyoto. We call the beautiful work produced in this style Kyoto Ware or Kiyomizu Ware.
At T. Nishikawa & Co., Inc. we focus on producing teacups, hohin teapots and yuzamashi, which are sencha utensils. We hope you will find delight in the fine quality of these pieces, which have been produced by Kyoto's traditions.
